Well, people this is what happens when I try to write a decent sequel. This began as the sequel to "Mulder's Words, Scully's Mind," but it didn't work out that way. I will write a sequel to that though. I promise:) What I mean by the title is after the show "Memento Mori," so there are obviously BIG spoilers for that episode! I am working on "Urgency 3/?" and it will be out soon. (I hope.) Thank you CiCi!!!!! megtv@dmv.com is the place to be!!!!!!!!!! DISCLAIMER: Mulder and Scully, and THEM I suppose, are all property of the G-O-M (God Among Men) Chris Carter, and the FOX network. No copyright infringement is intended. (I swear!!!!) RATING: PG (I take pride in writing clean stories for the kiddies!) CATEGORY: MSR, and DRAMATIC. (It's not knock out, drag out romance though. It is real tasteful, or at least I think so.) BY: Erin Corinn (That's me, the one and only!) NAME: "After The Fact 1/1) * * * * * * * * * * All she could do was cry. All her emotions came alive as they danced. In celebration of her birthday, Mulder had made her dinner and then asked her to dance. She couldn't refuse him. The way he had asked her was so childish that she couldn't say no. She wasn't in the best physical condition, her cancer was taking its toll, but she had to keep Mulder thinking she was fine. She didn't want him trying to protect her any more than he already did. As they danced she was in almost total euphoria with him, and she prayed for it to continue. Ever since Mulder's words in the hospital the night Penny died, she had been weak in the knees. Just looking up into his face as they danced was enough to make her blood feel like melted butter running through her veins. The song ended. "God I love Survivor," Scully whispered as she looked up into a misty-eyed Mulder. Mulder's eyes were on a collision course running themselves right smack into Scully's, and he saw her in a totally new light. One that could evoke emotions in him that he thought he never deserved to feel, especially from someone as perfect as Scully. He had thoughts that he knew had to be sins, and then remembered the hurt he felt when she was taken. His eyes shifted from Scully's into a blank space in the wall. She saw a glint of fire in his eyes as she pulled him a little bit closer. "What's the matter, Fox?" Mulder shivered. The last time she had called him by his first name they were on a stakeout and he had not slept in over a day and a half. "I was thinking about the people who had taken you away from me. I could have lost the most important thing in my life, you." It was now Scully's turn to shiver. As a minute tear ran from Mulder's tear-filled eyes, she backed away. For a moment Mulder's body ached for her to remain as close as she was, but his withdrawal was soon replaced by the warm feeling in his hand from where Scully was leading him to the couch. She sat down. "Mulder, I know that there are some things that have happened to me that are injustices. I also know that you probably think that they are your fault, but I took the risks just like you. If I wanted to I could have backed out when I learned how dangerous what you do is, but I didn't, and couldn't. My life revolves around the truth, and you." "How can you blame yourself for this when you know it's my fault. How can you or I ever believe that they were anyone else's fault but mine, and how can I even deserve to look at you as my friend or-" He stopped himself; he didn't want to go too far. "...as much pain as I've caused you?" "Mulder, you aren't the cause of my pain. They are the cause of my pain. Mulder you saved me when I was about to die lying in that hospital bed. I would not have survived if you weren't there by my side. I am sure of that." "How could I not? I wouldn't be able to look at myself in the mirror without falling into a heap on the floor. I would die without you Dana." He touched her face and wiped away a tear that Scully had, unbeknownst to her, let slide down her fragile cheek, teetering down her face. "Every second I am not with you I pray just to hear your voice, to see your face, to hold you, and to love you. I love you." All she could manage to do at this time was whisper, " I love you too," before she collapsed into a heap of tears beside him and let Mulder shift his arms just enough to wrap them around her waist. They stayed that way for a long moment, savoring the everlasting flavor of their newly acknowledged love, and then they slowly began to shift. Mulder slid his way down the couch making him perpendicular to Scully as she slowly slid her way down. They instantly discovered the perfect position for cuddling extremely close, and then, when they were so close that they could feel each other's heartbeat, they were happy. They did not move all night as they slowly drifted off in each other's arms... * * * * * * * * * * Mulder awoke briefly in the middle of the night and looked down upon her. He realized that he had not actually kissed her yet, let alone consummate their love, but then thought better of it; he didn't need physical things from her now, just her love. Scully shifted, and momentarily awoke. She looked up to see a strong, faithful man before her. How could she see his innocent face scarred by tears in front of her and not? Scully thought about waking him to show her love, but then recollected the amount of sleep Mulder usually got at night, and just snuggled in a little closer to feel the light breath of her partner beside her, and drifted back into a soft peaceful rest in the eve of their new life together. * * * * * * * * * * "Good morning Mulder," Scully whispered into Mulder's ear just loud enough to expose his mind to the new day ahead of them, as well as a whole new perspective on life. He had awoke to find that Scully had made him a light, healthy, breakfast. He smiled at her until he noticed the small trickle of blood coming out of her nose. "Dana, you're bleeding." "Oh, O.k. hold on. I'll be right back." As Mulder watched her run into the bathroom he almost screamed in agony. The only thing stopping him was the thought of Scully's scorn. He could see the situation vividly in his mind right now. He could almost hear her say, *I'm fine Mulder. You shouldn't be worrying about me. You'll be the first person I'll tell if something is wrong,* but he didn't want that. This situation wasn't fair. She should be a picture of health, and not living with cancer. It would have been devastating enough, had Scully's illness been a coincidental twist of fate, bit quite frankly, it wasn't. As Mulder sat he could see Scully emerge from the bathroom with a small bottle in her hand. "Mulder," she said, "I want you to take this. I really don't think I can handle having it here all the time right now." Mulder almost lost all control when he saw the small object that which Scully handed to him; it was the implant. "Scully, are you o.k.?" Mulder asked putting his own feeling's aside once more to make sure Scully was all right. "Yes Mulder I am fine. I just want you to keep it for now. O.K.?" "Sure, Scully. Of course I will." Mulder had noticed a small change in Scully after she had realized she had the cancer. This had to be expected, of course. You can't learn you have a life-threatening problem and not look at things in new perspective. Even though Scully was stronger than Mulder could ever imagine, her walls began to crack when she was around him. Whenever he looked at her she saw something new, a new thought or intuition, and feelings that she had never seen before. She walked out to find him looking at her with fear in his eyes. "Am I still bleeding Mulder?" "No Scully," he managed to say before he turned away. He could not stand to look at her beautiful face. She noticed his hollow expression and walked over, "Mulder, I know this is a rough time for us right now, but we can get through it. We are together and are not going to let anything get between us." "I know Scully, I just don't want to see you hurt, bleeding, or crying in a hospital. What they did you you-What I let them do to you is so wrong. I just pray it will end." Scully moved closer to Mulder and pulled him close, only to be matched by a shivering grip on her waist; a seemingly strong person tearing himself up inside, burrowing his hands in her hair, "I love you, Scully." "I love you, Mulder." FINE * * * * * * * * * * Well what did you all think? How about my lack of M&S "Fun?"
